(Senior) Legal Counsel - Data Protection and Privacy

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

In your role you will support SAP’s Data Protection Officer in all areas of responsibility defined by law and internal policies. As a lawyer in the Data Protection and Privacy team you will be responsible for, among other things, reviewing and advising on existing and new data processing operations, revising and drafting of policies and contract templates, advising on new business models, providing qualified data protection support to internal customers of SAP, identifying and analyzing complex data protection issues with solution-oriented focus while pragmatically balancing risks, promoting awareness for data protection risks, collaborating seamlessly the wider organization and for representing SAP in administrative and court procedures. You will contribute to defining SAP’s data protection and privacy strategy and support SAP’s worldwide business, operational and development teams with respect to all aspects of data protection and privacy law, including also related areas of law such as e.g. telecommunications and tele media laws as well as other upcoming laws (e-privacy regulation).

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Required skills

  • A graduation as fully qualified lawyer (Master of Laws) or comparable graduation (e.g. second state exam) with excellent results.
  • Proven working experience as inhouse-lawyer and profund knowledge of contract law, German and European data protection and privacy laws.
  • Good knowledge of other legal areas relevant to the IT industry, e.g. intellectual property laws.
  • Excellent written and oral skills, in particular the ability to present and communicate effectively.
  • Good team-working skills, comfortable and effective in a hands-on, team-oriented and international environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Preferred skills
  • German is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications and telemedia law is a plus

WORK EXPERIENCE

3-5 years working experience at least in a law firm specialized in data protection and privacy law and IT law, in the legal department and/or the data protection office of an IT company, or equivalent.
