As Legal Counsel at Spotify you will partner with and provide legal guidance to our Licensing, Content and Business Development teams with a particular focus on music publishing and record label licensing and its impact on all parts of the business. Our work is cutting edge, revolutionary and always evolving so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise the teams on legal issues using a creative and pragmatic approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft and advise our business teams on a wide range of commercial transactions with a focus on content licensing deals with music publishers, record labels and collecting societies across EMEA, APAC and new markets;
  • Collaborate with our Finance and Operations teams on the drafting and implementation of our content license agreements globally;
  • Work closely with our R&D team to advise on licensing issues that impact Spotify’s product development and growth;
  • Draft and negotiate data sharing agreements, NDAs and other similar documentation;
  • Improve our standard form agreements and legal processes that help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach;
  • Work closely with our business teams to summarise and communicate legal concepts clearly (pro-tip: jargon-free!) and helping them synthesise legal and regulatory frameworks in developing their business strategies;
  • Advise our teams on understanding legal contexts, issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Law Degree (or equivalent) from top-tier university;
  • Combined 2-4 years PQE working in a law firm and/or in-house legal department;
  • Strong working knowledge and experience working with intellectual property and legal issues relating to music publishing and label licensing, collecting societies, IP, media and digital products;
  • Previous experience partnering with global stakeholders both within the legal team and working with external counsel;
  • Have a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving and be able to effectively counsel business teams by providing pragmatic, commercial and timely advice.
