Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.

The chemical industry is a € 500+ billion industry, providing over 1 million direct jobs and nearly 2.5 million indirect jobs in Europe. The chemical industry is the “Industry of Things”. The industry's products are essential to 95% of everything manufactured: hygiene, health, mobility, construction, computers and electronics all rely on the chemical industry. The sector is also critical to meeting future needs, such as developing energy sources or managing scarce resources. The chemical industry is essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cefic is located in Brussels to represent the industry vis-à-vis EU institutions and involve member federations and companies in European advocacy. We employ more than 150 people.

For its Legal Department, Cefic is looking for a (m/f): Legal Manager REACH, better regulation & internal market.

Mission of the role:

The successful candidate will provide advice on upcoming legislation and provide support for the implementation of the regulations applicable to the chemical industry in Europe. He/she will work closely in cooperation with Cefic Member Companies and Federations, as well as with authorities involved. The manager will report directly to the Legal Director and will have no direct reports to them.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?

You will:

  • Lead and manage legal network of experts;
  • Monitor, analyse, report and present relevant EU level developments to Cefic members and partners;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of EU policies by keeping contacts with authorities and stakeholders;
  • Represent Cefic in external fora (think tanks, federations) and before the EU institutions;
  • Give legal advice on the interpretation of EU legislation, court cases or general principles and specific application of EU law;
  • Review and advise on project position papers and materials prepared by the Cefic Program Councils.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience and competencies:

  • Master’s degree in law, specialisation in EU law;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry, private practice and/or institutions, preferably dealing with chemicals regulation;
  • Knowledge of and expertise in REACH;
  • Knowledge in EU regulatory policy (Better Regulation) and internal market rules;
  • Familiarity with the EU legislative process and Comitology;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent level of English, written and spoken. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

  • A good team player, able to multitask and manage different priorities when working independently;
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with service and customer orientation;
  • Passionate about conscientious work and attention to detail;
  • Curious, fast learning and willing to improve continuously.
