The role is a senior position, which demands high energy and self-confidence as well as pragmatism and curiosity. As strategic partner to the Group CEO of elipsLife and legal adviser to the elipsLife Group Board of Directors, you will actively participate in the development, launch and maintenance of new group life and health insurance products and have the ability to apply insurance regulatory requirements to new and creative insurance benefits or features while maintaining strong governance and informed decision-making processes.

What are the key responsibilities?

The Global Head Legal elipsLife leads the global legal function and advises elips Life AG Board of Directors and its group of companies and affiliates.

More particularly, you will:

  • Provide corporate and insurance regulatory advice to Board of Directors, CEO, Executive Team and employees with respect to strategy, new market entries and complex legal issues
  • Lead the legal work-stream of strategic projects, draft and negotiate corporate and insurance related agreements (NDA, MOU, Distribution/Producer Agreements, Agent and Broker Agreements, Co-operation Agreements, Third Party Administration Agreements)
  • Draft and negotiate strategic operating platform related agreements (Material Sourcing and Outsourcing Agreements, Reinsurance Agreements)
  • Assist with regulatory issues related to acquisitions, joint ventures and the establishment of new licensed businesses, including via participation in meeting with regulators alongside other Swiss Re participants, where required
  • Support ad hoc or unexpected material regulatory investigations and examinations and material breach reporting with respect to licensing
  • Ensure monitoring of relevant legal and regulatory developments, including via participation in relevant industry working groups and relationship with the Swiss Re regulatory affairs' team
  • Manage the provision of corporate governance and secretariat of legal entities
  • Prepare and deliver high quality management presentations, legal reports and internal policies and standards, develop processes to increase efficiency of legal services
  • Support the internal governance processes and ensure that legal risks are promptly identified, communicated and mitigated, including by way of legal analysis and written legal reports
  • Collaborate with other members of the Swiss Re legal team regarding compliance, disputes, corporate organization, employment and intellectual property matters
  • Establish working relationships with elipsLife functions as well as Swiss Re functions
  • Engage and manage external legal counsel
  • Lead and manage a growing team of 7 legal professionals located in Europe and US, pro-actively assess and plan demand and activities
  • Take accountability for talent development, succession planning, budget management and personal growth of the elipsLife legal team
  • Ensure strong connection between the elipsLife legal team, Swiss Re Life Capital legal team and Swiss Re Division L&C, including networking, information sharing, participation in initiatives and development programs
  • Actively participate in the Life Capital Legal Management Team and the Swiss Re Division L&C Extended Leadership Team by initiated, contributing and leading initiatives
  • In this position, you will report to the General Counsel Life Capital. You will also be a member of the elipsLife Group Executive Team and Life Capital Legal Management Team.

Are you up for the challenge?

  • You are a legal counsel with 8+ years of experience in group life insurance product developments and you developed your expertise in a global re/insurance organization.
  • You have proven knowledge of group insurance policies, procedures, and various sales models and have advised under various jurisdictions globally.
  • You have a proven track record of leading projects and complex assignments, including market entry in new jurisdictions and new or innovative structures or products.
  • You have experience in leading and managing global teams, clear leadership values and a proven track record of operating according to global standards and values while attending to local business priorities, leading legal projects and process improvements and you are a reliable change agent.
  • You have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • You are confident in your ability to drive matters independently while balancing the need to collaborate and maintain an appropriate level of communication and coordination with your peers and superiors.
  • You demonstrate accountability, resilience when facing challenges and you are fully reliable, responsive and display a high level of energy.
  • You are recognised, by clients for the pragmatic advice you provide, your sense of urgency and commercial mindset and by colleagues, for being an excellent teammate, always happy to assist others, collaborating and fully transparent, and for your good sense of humour.
  • You have experience of large international organisations.
