Legal Counsel

We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel with responsibility for supporting AXAXL’s underwriting and business activities in the Nordic region (Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland). The position is part of an international legal team providing support to AXAXL’s legal entities around the world.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Legal support for the underwriting activities;
  • Legal advice to the Nordic Country Manager;
  • Ensuring the Nordic branches of AXAXL comply with all relevant laws and regulations;
  • Review legal analyses and technical reports and instruct as necessary external counsel;
  • Horizon scanning - make recommendations to management on how to respond to legal issues or proposed changes in laws and regulations;
  • Review and approve legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters (e.g., loans, leases, purchase agreements, non disclosure agreements);
  • Represent AXAXL in non-claims legal proceedings before courts, and interactions with regulators, government agencies, or other authorities;
  • Assist the wider Legal P & C team with Pan European products and projects;
  • Assist with global programmes questions/issues;
  • Prepare reports for the AXAXL legal entities for use at underwriting committee, Exco and the Board as required;
  • Assist with any local compliance issues arising & support for sanctions and financial crime;
  • Responsible for local training as required.

You will initially report to the Head of Legal- UK entities and eventually into the Head of Legal Europe – a new position that we are currently looking to fill.

SHARE your talent

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Swedish Master’s of Laws degree;
  • Experience in insurance law;
  • At least 3 years experience (in-house or in private practice);
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English;
  • Solution-oriented and the ability to work independently;
  • Desire to work as part of a busy international legal team;
  • The role requires resilience, flexibility, good social and communication skills;
  • Willingness to travel;
  • A knowledge of the Norwegian and Danish legal systems would be desirable.
