Job Description:

As a senior member of the team the Legal Manager will provide legal advice and solutions, and work with other senior members of the Project team and Senior Leadership, to ensure the successful development of the Project, achieve operational readiness and mitigate risk to the business.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Use their large build/infrastructure project experience to support procurement and the management of key contracts including for shaft sinking, tunnelling, port and materials handling together with associated land and planning requirements and ongoing compliance with regulations, including Health & Safety, to ensure the delivery of the Project under the Mine Regulations

  • General commercial advice, including in relation to contractor and sub-contractor issues, and management of compliance with project insurances
  • Supporting the commercial team with disputes and claims management and, in conjunction with the Anglo American litigation team, managing any litigation or claims relating to the Project
  • Legal support to the HR function and management of external counsel as required in relation to employment law, contract and dispute issues and processes and industrial relations issues.
  • Providing legal advice to the finance team in support of ongoing tax related legal issues and financing arrangements
  • Support to the research and development and agronomy functions in the management of know-how, intellectual property and necessary trial programs
  • Providing support to the sales and marketing team in relation to the Project’s off-take agreement portfolio and customer relationships and joint ventures
  • Working with Anglo American Group Legal to ensure proper reporting and approval processes are met and to ensure compliance across Anglo American’s broader policy and regulatory requirements
  • Management and development of the Project legal team including strategic planning of necessary legal resources (including identification of “best fit” external counsel) and support as the Project moves from development to operations
  • Preparation and management of Project legal budget and external counsel spend and delivery

The Legal Manager will work closely with the Project CFO who will be the Legal Manager’s key stakeholder with the Project.

This role is in the Group Legal Team at a Band 5 and reports to Head of Legal - Commercial.

Qualifications:

LLB or equivalent. Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent professional recognition)
