About the Role

In your role you will

  • Provide legal advice and support in relation to Swiss Re's business strategy including the newly formed Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) group, which supports third-party capital activities;
  • Support a variety of bespoke reinsurance and retrocession structures which may involve capital markets touchpoints (e.g., parametric and index-based solutions; reinsurance "sidecar" structures and other insurance-linked solutions) during structuring, negotiation and implementation of transactions;
  • Analyze and advise on legal and regulatory matters as they apply to the group's reinsurance activities across the globe;
  • Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence on transactions; review, draft and negotiate deal documentation; instruct and manage outside counsel (as needed);
  • Work closely with a diverse group of structurers, marketers, underwriters, actuaries and other cross-functional colleagues and facilitate coordination of legal/regulatory issues among ACP, legal, compliance, risk management and other colleagues across Swiss Re's EMEA, Americas and Asia hubs;
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and outside law firms;
  • Provide legal support for new product development and related transactions, as needed;
  • Support internal group projects and strategic initiatives, as needed;
  • Support development of efficient policies and practices that maintain high legal and ethical standards;
  • Conduct and/or arrange internal presentations and trainings on legal topics;
  • Monitor legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas.

About You

Qualification and Experience

We are looking for you if you

  • Have a law degree and qualifications, preferably in Switzerland, with a minimum of four years' experience, preferably in (re)insurance transactions, with a law firm or international financial institution/insurance company; experience in M&A, finance and/or capital markets transactions would be considered as a plus;
  • Have experience and understanding of transactional, regulatory and licensing topics and practices in cross-border scenarios and ideally a good understanding of (re)insurance and capital market transactions;
  • Speak and write in English fluently, other languages are a plus;
  • Work independently and handle multiple requests and deadlines;
  • Provide high-quality, timely client service that is balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of the firm;
  • Are an excellent communicator (written and verbal) and adopt a pragmatic, consultative approach to problem-solving.

  • You are a trusted business partner, who develops relationships and communicates legal concepts clearly and succinctly;

  • You openly share assumptions, beliefs, values and thought process in reaching conclusions and are receptive to constructive challenge, willing to learn, self-reflective, and collaborative;
  • You take accountability for progress and/or outcomes, apply a measured appetite for risk, and plan ahead to deliver workable solutions;
  • Some travel may be required.
