The successful candidate will be part of a team that assists with legal aspects of the day to day operations as well as the broader regulatory, product, project and governance aspects of the Wealth Management and Corporate Finance business of Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A. You will also be involved with EMEA-wide and global projects covering regulatory change, lending and product development to provide bespoke solutions for Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A.’s clients.

As part of the wider Deutsche Bank Legal department, the successful candidate will also be expected to fostering a collaborative working relationship with our departmental colleagues in and outside Luxembourg and represent the views of Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A. on bank-wide Legal department initiatives. In particular you will be working closely with our Swiss, French and UK colleagues on UK, French and Swiss law transactions.

We are looking for a team-player who enjoys working with lawyers and non-lawyers alike. An ability to build relationships with business colleagues and other control functions is critical. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and able to provide actionable legal advice.

Given the breadth of the role and the cross-border nature of Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A.’s business, it is essential that the successful candidate has had exposure to a range of products and services typically offered in the wealth management and corporate lending business and is comfortable working with foreign laws (supported by departmental colleagues and, where appropriate, external counsel). Knowledge of lending and wealth management products is desirable. An aptitude for critical thinking and a robust but pragmatic approach to managing legal risk while facilitating business objectives is, however, essential.

Key responsibilities and capabilities:

  • Providing legal support for Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A.’s business and in particular Wealth Management in relation to all of its activities including discretionary and advisory mandates, custody, lending and deposits (including regulated mortgages and strategic lending), wealth planning and product development.
  • Assisting with the co-ordination efforts with other legal teams and other control and risk functions, such as Compliance, AFC and Audit.
  • Engaging and managing, to the extent considered appropriate by Legal, external lawyers.
  • Advising the business in relation to regulatory change which may impact the business and assisting in the implementation of the same.
  • Partnering closely with product specialists and other business people in developing unique products and solutions for Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A.’s clients.
  • Supporting initiatives within the wider Deutsche Bank group.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience of a range of products and services typically offered in the wealth management and corporate lending space (lending and deposits and alternative investment vehicle experience is desirable).
  • Experience with cross-border operating models and working with resident non-domiciled clients.
  • Experience managing external counsel, including agreeing fee estimates and scope of assignments.
  • Highly motivated and efficient with a preparedness to learn new areas of law and how Deutsche Bank operates.
  • Working in a dynamic international environment, an ability to relate to different business perspectives and approaches to issues arising.
  • Ability to operate in a matrix environment and a drive to achieve solutions.
  • Good organizational and project management skills.
  • An awareness of regulatory change in the wealth management and corporate lending spheres.
  • A thoughtful and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Master Degree in Law/LLM. Luxembourg or French bar exam (CCDL, CAPA or equivalent) or any other European bar would be an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent command of English and French (written and spoken). German will be an asset.
  • Good commercial sense.
  • Ability to think critically about banking operating models and how legal issues apply to them.
