Candidate Profile

You profile:

  • You have at least 6 years post-qualification experience as a solicitor/attorney preferably in Common Law jurisdiction and/or as in-house counsel;
  • Previous experience of commercial law and/or energy and/or trading is mandatory;
  • An experience in international litigation or arbitration can be a plus;
  • Proficient English legal drafting skills (and speaks, reads and writes in English);
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management;
  • Legal training in another European jurisdiction is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of French and/or another major European language would also be an advantage.

Activities

What you will do:

As a Legal Counsel, you will be part of T&S Global Legal Team. You will report to the VP Legal and advise traders, management, operators and support office functions. You will be legal advisor on third party negotiation teams on a variety of transactions (commercial/finance/operations etc.).

To do so, your main responsibilities will be the following:

  • Provides legal services and advice on legal issues relating primarily TotalEnergies Trading & Shipping activities around the world, including on corporate aspects (governance, company management, procurement);
  • Provides legal services and advice on other areas of TOTSA business, including IT, labour, insurance, financing, corporate structuring, and other key business areas of the Company as they evolve (including on innovative aspects of the business);
  • Provides legal support as required to other Total Group entities;
  • Drafting and advising on all agreements and other documentation relating to the business;
  • Risk– advises on legal risks and minimise/mitigate the impact of legal risks for the TS business;
  • Disputes – manages legal disputes for the Company and advises on the risks and outcomes;
  • Laws and regulations - monitors and advises on applicable laws for the business in relevant jurisdictions;
  • Understands the business and the commercial and technical issues that may affect the legal services being provided;
  • When necessary, attends legal and industry working groups to assess industry changes;
  • Instructs external counsel and actively works to minimise external legal costs.
