About the role

We have identified a need for a permanent Lawyer role within the Ashurst Advance team in Glasgow to support the growing demand for delivery of managed services and integrated solutions to our capital markets clients, particularly tradeflow work. Central to the role is collaboration with the legal analysts in Ashurst Advance and practising lawyers in our Global Markets team to enhance the diversity of skills and experience we can offer our clients.

The focus of the role is to (i) drive quality and elevate experience of the legal analyst team and (ii) act as a bridge to the Global Markets team, in providing the following services:

  • maintenance of structured products and repack programmes;
  • drafting and execution of structured products and repack tradeflow documents;
  • co-ordination and review of multi-jurisdictional legal opinions and cross border advice;
  • repapering and remediation projects.

You will be expected to manage matters that have been assigned to you, liaising closely with colleagues, clients, counterparties, and other advisers. Supervision will be provided as required but you should be confident to take the lead with client related matters.

Typical responsibilities include

  • developing and undertaking quality control checks on all work produced by the team;
  • drafting of legal documents and agreements, often at higher volumes and working to daily deadlines;
  • leading/supporting the team to lead on negotiations with counterparties;
  • providing legal expertise, in conjunction with the Global Markets team, required to support matter delivery;
  • providing structured supervision and on the job training to more junior team members;
  • contributing to Ashurst Advance team know-how;
  • working with the Ashurst Advance Senior Manager to develop business and identify new solutions for Global Markets' clients.

Essentials skills and experience

  • Qualified (ideally England & Wales) lawyer with post qualification experience in international finance transactions of the types referred to above with a top international law firm, or equivalent in-house experience;
  • Experience ideally of derivatives, structured products and/or securitisation, but more general capital markets or finance experience will also be considered;
  • Experience of cross-border work;
  • Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents and agreements;
  • An adaptable person who is a fast learner and team-player who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels;
  • Excellent attention to detail with an understanding of risk and quality control;
  • Good organisational skills and experience in transaction management including an ability to juggle multiple matters and tight deadlines;
  • Excellent academic track record;
  • Excellent client relationship skills and experience of business development.
