Your responsibilities

As a competition lawyer, you will support the whole of the Euroclear group on all competition law related questions. You will cooperate with the lawyers of the Legal Division within all entities of the Euroclear Group as well as work closely with internal business teams, including advising Euroclear management teams and boards of directors. Timelines can be anything from on-the-spot advice to on-going lengthy projects.

Your tasks will include:

  • Day-to-day competition law assistance, including answering queries from the business, advising on new product launches, pricing, reviewing and drafting legal agreements and giving competition law advice;
  • Working on group-wide strategic projects and supporting other teams within the business;
  • Managing and updating the Euroclear competition law compliance framework, including giving training, updating policies and follow-up of the competition law controls;
  • Closely managing and supervising outside counsel on all aspects, ranging from legal strategy to budget;
  • Horizon scanning of the legal and regulatory landscape.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a candidate:

Technical skills

  • with minimum 5 years of relevant experience in EU competition law, preferably gained in a law firm or as in-house counsel;
  • a strong knowledge of the competition law rules, in particular the prohibition of anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominance;
  • fluent in English;
  • knowledge of the financial services industry is a plus.

Soft skills

  • ability and enthusiasm to undertake a varied workload;

  • excellent communication skills and ability to integrate in a team;
  • meticulous and analytic;
  • ability to translate the competition law rules into pragmatic, risk-aware advice for the business with a problem-solving mentality;

  • flexible and proactive;
  • able to work independently with minimal direction but also happy collaborating with colleagues;
  • able to deliver high quality support consistent across jurisdictions, in a timely, pragmatic, cost-efficient and effective fashion, and to build a solid understanding of the business of the Euroclear Group;
  • respectfully defending own opinions or interests in any professional circumstance (assertiveness);
  • expressing well-founded opinions and positions and understanding their consequences (judgement);
  • obtaining approval of others with good arguments, appropriate influencing methods and a certain “natural authority” (persuasion);
  • acting with consideration of the dynamics in the organization (organizational sensitivity).
